Killers
WINNERS OF THE MAJOR PRIZE
Artistic Excellence Award, Ephemera 2025
Ghost Net Collective founders Lynnette Griffiths and Marion Gaemers won the overall creative award at 2025 Ephemera Sculpture exhibition on the Townsville Strand in July. According to the judges the artists work was beautifully crafted and clearly articulated the theme of this year’s exhibition, Trace-less.
KILLERS an impressive large-scale ghost net anemone gracefully sways with the natural winds, much like it would in ocean currents. Anemones are fascinating creatures known for their ability to catch prey using a paralyzing toxin. Their tentacles deftly guide unsuspecting victims into their mouths, where they vanish without a trace.
The tentacles you see here are crafted from repurposed ghost nets, carefully deconstructed and hand-stitched. It’s intriguing how both the ghost net and the anemone act as deadly predators, ensnaring and consuming their prey, leaving behind no evidence of their meals.
So, as you stroll by, tread carefully—you never know what might be lurking!
