Tangled Tides 23.5

This refers to the latitudinal position of the Tropic of Capricorn.

This collaborative exhibition will sit in the ‘Vitrine Space’ at Rockhampton Art Museum. The ghost net works showcase an underwater ecosystem, hand-sculpted and stitched to represent rocks, coral, and marine life. This exhibition highlights the beauty and vulnerability of ocean environments while encouraging reflection on our human impact on these sites.

The exhibition includes community workshops that promote education and action. Materials for the artwork have been collected from the waters of North and Central Queensland. In partnership with The Capricorn Coast Marine Community Inc., local schools, groups and individuals are involved in creating a wall of small turtles, emphasizing the vital work of community and Indigenous Rangers.

All workshop images are from Capricorn Marine Community Inc.

All artwork images are LG and MG - GNC

The Ghost Net Collective acknowledges the Gimuy Walubara Yidinji people, the traditional custodians of Gimuy - Cairns and surrounding district. We acknowledge the First Nations Peoples of the Torres Strait Islands and mainland Australia that we visit. We pay our respect to past and present Elders. We acknowledge the important role that art has played on these lands for thousands of years and believe that, through collaboration, we can make a difference.
